Fighting Low Self-Esteem

low self esteem

I believe in you!

Within you is the power which will astonish you. Within you are the seeds of greatness, of beauty, of discipline, of excellence, of destiny. This is the last moment of the way you used to be. It is time to give yourself permission to reach the absolutely highest possible state of health.

– David Wolfe, The Sunfood Diet

You are not invisible!

I know you feel that nobody understands your pain.  But people in your life probably care about you and love you much more than you believe. Sometimes you simply need to reach out in order to find balance. It is wrong to believe you are not loved – you are created in love and you are worthy of it at all times. Even when everything seems to go wrong, remember that you deserve love.

Don’t doubt that you can achieve anything. Try! Your self-esteem is boosted by success more than anything else. Succeed in baby steps – list some meaningful attainable goals, give yourself a deadline – the completion of even small things should make you feel much better.

Be passionate about becoming the person that you want to be.  Imagine being different and take action to achieve what you want to represent. Do you want to be rich? Go to work! Do you want to be smart? Study hard! Do you want beauty? Maintain yourself! You should be ready to invest time, for that’s one of the costs of happiness.

Changing your inner script may be a challenge. Look at the successful moments of your past. During those times, you decided what you want, believed in yourself, faced criticism, overcame obstacles and dedicated yourself. Persuade your mind, that you are created beautiful, brilliant and whole, that you deserve the best destiny.

The power of repeating affirmations: What you think you become

Affirmations are statements spoken and often repeated or chanted to encourage and uplift the spirit of the person who speaks them. Om Mani Padme Hum is a powerful Buddhist mantra, which invokes the benevolence and blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion. It is said that all the teachings of Buddha are contained in this mantra, which cannot really be translated. The entire Dharma , the truth about the nature of suffering and how to remove it is said to be contained in these six syllables. Like the Buddhist monks, we are advised by psychologists to repeat sentences which give us courage, balance, and wisdom.

Affirmations are blessings of a sort. Their immediate effect: increasing your motivation to improve your self-esteem and raise your opinion about yourself, so that you may respond differently to life situations. Affirmations make us believe in our potential. They are like exercise – fitness for the brain. So bless yourself – the entire time. Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being excited about what could go right.

There are videos on Youtube with hours of affirmations. It will be best for you to invent your own.  Here are the loveliest I collected on Pinterest:

Visualizations and How to Visualize?

They are the siblings of affirmations – powerful instruments for exploring and developing your soul’s motivation.

Find a quiet place – such as a nice shady, wooden bench in the park.  Sit in a position you find comfortable. Close your eyes. Relax, take deep breaths. Focus on your breathing. Try to imagine everything you will be when your goal is completed. Think in terms of appearance, sights you delight in, sounds which move you, people around you, everything you will gain.

What happens in your brain while you visualize? Pretty simple – the brain responds as though you are really doing it. Your brain doesn’t make the difference between real and imagined. Become an active participant in creating a future you want. What you focus on, you attract. There are thousands of visualization techniques.

When you wish upon a star,

Makes no difference who you are,

Anything your heart desires

Will come to you!

Creative visualization is the technique, which helps you bring in your life anything you want to be and do. It’s the great power known as “imagination” and we constantly use it. It’s a kind of magic.

Energy is attractive. Thoughts and feelings have their own magnetic energy that attracts energy, which is similar in nature. “As you sow, so shall you reap.” You attract in your life what you imagine most vividly. So, put simply – be the energy that you want to attract. Plan some good stuff for yourself, treat yourself right.

How to Help A Person With A Low Self-Esteem

That’s very hard indeed.

Show compassion! This is the hallmark of maturity of an evolved person.

When you approach the person, show respect, share with him, explain everything and actually listen to the guy. You need to listen – it’s crucial when you want to help a person. Open your heart for unconditional love. It is very easy to love and make love to a confident person. But a person who feels stupid, ugly and intolerable needs just as much love, if not more. We, human beings are born to be loved – it is our compelling need. You should believe in your fellow even in the times he does not believe in himself. Allow him to express his negative emotions. Healthy relationships have got two pillars: trust and transparency. Plant optimistic, positive seeds in your beloved person’s mind at all times.

Create a compliment jar. Every day write on a piece of paper what you love in this person, and in the end of the month, gift it to him, thanking him for making your life so beautiful. Help him become an active participant in his life.

At all times, keep in mind that your neighbor is burdened by all the negative thinking and his rotten self-attitude. On a daily basis, he entertains thoughts such as I can’t do it! I am not worthy! Nobody loves me! I am not good enough! I must be perfect! He constantly feels like he is in a war with himself. He is in a dire situation and he needs compassion and appreciation in huge doses. His wishes need to be fulfilled, for the lack of self-esteem may make people truly astray. It’s actually related to depression, one of the hardest and scariest states of the human psyche in existence.

I know that I can speak about writing until I annoy even the most patient person. It obviously is more than a passion to me. Dean Kansky said: "You know, the Greeks didn't write obituaries. They only asked one thing after a man died: "Did he have passion?"
